Day 225 – August 13, 2010 :: Stylish Shopper

Doesn’t everyone wear a tutu to the grocery store?

I love the rock star vibe of this shot.  Granted, it’s mostly due to the fact that she’s overdue for a haircut, but still… :)

All stocked up for the next baking lesson! :)

Day 224 – August 12, 2010 :: Lord of the Lockers

Thursday morning was Matthew’s schedule pick-up for middle school. He got his school supplies and class schedule and locker number and combination.  Sixth grade is the first time the kids get lockers that actually lock, so learning how to use them is a big deal.

He practiced a bunch of times, and more or less got the hang of it. :)

We also found all of his classrooms and walked the route he’ll take about a dozen times. (Wow, that was a lot of walking!) Changing rooms on their own is also another first, and the building is larger and a bit confusing, so he got turned around several times. By the end, he seemed to have it pretty well down though. Hopefully, he won’t get too lost when the halls are filled with 950 kids!

Day 223 – August 11, 2010 :: Sometimes It’s a CirKis Around Here

A quiet, somewhat rainy afternoon. A good time to try out a new game. This one is called Cir-Kis. It’s a bit more complicated than it looks, but it was fun and interesting to see how strategies could be used.

We played twice, first just Matthew and I, and then Kaylee joined in for the second game.

Matthew won both games. Apparently, the champion gets to sit on the table. ;)

Day 222 – August 10, 2010 :: Exam Passed

I took Kaylee in for her annual check-up at the doctor… just a few months late. ;)  No shots needed, vision and hearing are fine, and at 55” tall (95th percentile) and 70 pounds (83rd percentile) she’s right on track. Yay!  The look on her face is her thinking I’m crazy for wanting this picture. LOL

Another shot, just for fun. She’s still just humoring me, but she’s doing a better job of faking her enthusiasm. LOL

Day 221 – August 9, 2010 :: Do You Know the Muffin Girl?

Are we tired of pictures of Kaylee baking yet? Believe it or not, I actually haven’t photographed every single lesson. LOL  This time the recipe of choice was “Donut Muffins”, the closest she could get to actual donuts, since I refused to buy a deep fryer... or let her use one even if we had one. LOL

I have no idea what exactly this next face was about, but it’s a typical Kaylee enthusiastic “oh man, did you see that?” expression. :)

Coating the freshly baked muffins in butter, then cinnamon and sugar.

Yum!!!

Day 220 – August 8, 2010 :: Protracted Precision

Matthew asked me to give him a refresher on how to use a protractor, so that he could measure out angles to divide up an area of a game field he was drawing.

He took his time figuring everything out and was very meticulous. I love watching him work on something like this… the shoulders and brow go up.

… or the bottom lip disappears.  This is serious business.

He spent hours working on this drawing, perfecting every detail.

Yep, the kid definitely has “engineer” in his blood. ;)

Day 219 – August 7, 2010 :: Pushy Pumpkins

The kids spent most of the afternoon completely absorbed in a catalog that arrived in the mail.  What kind of catalog?  Why, Halloween costumes, of course.  Hello?  Halloween? Isn’t it still summer? School hasn’t even started yet. I don’t need any help from the retailers rushing the holidays along; time already flies by fast enough all on its own!
