Day 255 – September 12, 2010 :: Random Dancing

Sunday, late afternoon. Mark off at a magic lecture. Kaylee just out of the shower. Somehow the subject of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s “Eat It” comes up (probably as we were trying to decide what we wanted for supper). I pull it up online for them to hear. Spontaneous dance party to erupts. We take turns picking songs for the next hour and a half. Good times. :)

Day 254 – September 11, 2010 :: Game Night Gourmet

When Mark has D&D, the kids (including any extra kids who may have tagged along with their gaming dads) and I always have frozen pizza for supper.  It’s quick and cheap and easy, and as far as the kids are concerned, it’s as good as a gourmet meal. :)

Day 253 – September 10, 2010 :: Good to the Last Drop

The kids had chocolate ice cream for dessert. They made sure they got every last bit of it. :)

Day 252 – September 9, 2010 :: A Total Fluke

Day 251 – September 8, 2010 :: Time for an Ark?

After over 5½” of rain in two days, the playground areas at the park resembled swimming pools.

Kaylee was all ready to dive in after school.

Her face as she caught sight of the smaller play area from the top of the larger structure…

Fortunately, that was the end of the rain for a while, and the water had subsided by morning.

Day 250 – September 7, 2010 :: Thinking Chamber

Kaylee decided to build a “thinking chamber” out of pillows as a place to help her focus and get her homework done. :)

Day 249 – September 6, 2010 :: Fabulosity

Kaylee, running into the room: “Mom, Mom, Mom! Take a picture!”
Me: “Why”
Kaylee": “Because I look FAB-ulous!!!”

Yes, Sweetie, indeed you do. :)

Day 248 – September 5, 2010 :: Load ‘Em Up

The kids spent most of the day relaxing and playing games while I got caught up some laundry. I lost count of which load this was.

Day 247 – September 4, 2010 :: Play Day

The weather was beautiful Saturday morning, so the kids and I spent an action-packed hour at the park.

There was lots of swinging… even synchronized. :)

Kaylee’s gotten quite good at pumping to swing herself.

It makes ever-so cautious Matthew nervous. He tells her not to swing so high!

Then it was on to the basketball court. Kaylee was telling Matthew to get out of the way, so he demonstrated that he wasn’t tall enough to block. He got some good air though. :)

Then Kaylee went to the other end of the court for some hopscotch. Look at that ponytail go!

She spent some time “drawing” with the rock she’d picked up for hopscotch.

Then there was time hanging out on the playground. Matthew was very proud that he made it up this twisty ladder. :)

Showing off the precious rock that Kaylee has now decided is a fossil. ;) Poor fossil would meet an unfortunate fate. I put it in my pocket for safekeeping, but it fell out when I took out my phone to check the time and was lost among the bark mulch. Bad mommy.

Matthew examines the planet cube grid.

Kaylee’s main reason for wanting to come to the park was so she could practice on the monkey bars. Matthew demonstrated for her. His feet are still just barely off the ground.

Ta-da!

In spite of our encouragement, Kaylee was too scared to try, even though she’s only a few inches shorter than Matthew.

Maybe it would be easier from the other side. Hmmm. Nope. No go.

Finally, after leaving the playground area to go for a walk, Kaylee pleaded to go back for one more try.

Yay! She’s off the ladder!

She didn’t make it across, but it’s a start!

Of course, she had no qualms at all about again making Matthew nervous, climbing up this thingamabob...

to a height much above what she was on the monkey bars.

Silly girl.

Day 246 – September 3, 2010 :: Excuse Me, Your Tags Are Showing

I giggled when I went to do dishes and was greeted by a view of twin unicorn rumps.  (I won this pair for Kaylee from a crane machine at a birthday party last fall. She’s left them at the table after breakfast this morning.)

Is it just me, or do they look a little bit embarrassed? ;)

Day 245 – September 2, 2010 :: You Are Here

We pulled out the kids’ globe for Matthew’s social studies homework. He had to identify locations based on longitude and latitude coordinates. Worked great for the big stuff. We had much harder time with the problems that were precise locations within California. If anyone knows of a good online resource for detailed state maps that include longitude and latitude lines, please let me know. :b

Day 244 – September 1, 2010 :: Pre-Dinner Show

Matthew actually finished his homework early enough to have a little downtime before supper, so he and Kaylee watched some videos in her room.
